About

The EMILI Data Initiative is a program of technology demonstration, applied research and data literacy training designed to kick-start the conversation about data in the Canadian agri-food sector.   Our goal is to complement the exciting developments occurring in agriculture and food technology with the non-technical skills and knowledge that workers, and business owners, need to make smart, strategic decisions when it comes to data and digital technologies.

Successful adoption of data-intensive technologies in farming and food production depends on all value-chain actors having a sound understanding of the issues that arise from the collection, use and sharing of data.

Through a diverse set of activities we will encourage collaboration between organizations across the agri-food value chain.   For more information on each area of activity that make up the EMILI Data Initiative, check out the dedicated page:

EMILI is excited to lead this foundational project that will work to build a culture of data governance and sustain trust in the data and digital tools used throughout the agri-food sector.

Funding

This project is possible through the substantial in-kind support of organizations from across the Canadian agri-food value chain.

EMILI would also like to recognize the co-investment made by Protein Industries Canada through its Capacity Building Program. For more information on the co-investment see the original news release from July 2021.

In November 2022, EMILI joined Ag Data Transparent (ADT) as its first supporting member.

ADT is an American non-profit organization that assists producers with understanding and evaluating contracts associated with collection, storage, transfer, and use of their agricultural data. ADT's mission is aligned with the work of the EMILI Data Initiative to empower growers with the knowledge and tools they need to make smart, strategic decisions about their data.
